The Day of the Jackal – Season 2* (2025)

Season 2 of The Day of the Jackal continues the high-stakes espionage thriller with returning antihero codenamed “The Jackal” (portrayed by Eddie Redmayne). After narrowly escaping MI6 and CIA capture in Season 1, the Jackal resurfaces in Eastern Europe, operating under a new identity and hired by a shadowy coalition of rogue intelligence officers and cyberterrorists to assassinate a rising populist leader in Berlin whose policies threaten global surveillance networks.

The season opens with a tense flashback revealing the Jackal’s origin — once a decorated British operative, betrayed and left for dead, now a master of disguise and deception. Meanwhile, Chief Inspector Isabel Fournier (played by Lashana Lynch) is reinstated by Interpol after the political fallout from Season 1’s events. She obsessively pursues the Jackal across multiple countries, even as her superiors question her loyalties and sanity.

Each episode heightens the cat-and-mouse dynamic. The Jackal orchestrates assassinations using increasingly elaborate tactics, including drone hijackings and deepfake misinformation, staying one step ahead of the world’s best intelligence services. A mid-season twist reveals that the Berlin target is a decoy — the real objective is to collapse NATO’s command infrastructure by eliminating a secret council of military strategists at a covert summit in Prague.

The climax unfolds in a chilling double assassination sequence at the summit, where the Jackal uses a bio-engineered toxin disguised as perfume. However, a last-minute betrayal by one of his backers exposes his location. Isabel corners the Jackal in a silent, snow-covered train yard in Poland. But just as she prepares to take him in, a sniper takes her down — the Jackal escapes again, vanishing into the shadows.

The season ends with a final scene in Tokyo, where a mysterious woman approaches the Jackal and utters, “Phase Two begins.” The camera pans to a dossier labeled “Operation Anubis,” hinting at a much larger global conspiracy to come in Season 3. The Jackal smirks — and disappears into a neon-lit crowd.

Season 2 is a tense, globe-trotting thriller, expanding the mythology and complexity of the Jackal while keeping audiences guessing at every turn.
